Nick Mackowiak (he/him) is a Louisiana-based actor, director,‍ & writer

  • As an actor, Nick’s approach is rooted in Michael Chekhov and Jacques Lecoq’s pedagogies, with specialized training in clown, commedia, bouffon, Greek tragedy, and absurdism. Currently earning a BFA in Acting from the University of Louisiana, his favorite credits include Papa Ubu in Ubu Roi, Constantine in Big Love, and Ariel in The Tempest. Nick also starred as Boy/Peter in the English Theatre of Rome’s Italian premiere of Peter and the Starcatcher, a production that opened to glowing reviews.

  • As a director, Nick holds a special love for non-realistic theatre, particularly surrealism. Last spring, he directed Sam Shepherd’s Savage/Love, offering a confessional and deeply intimate interpretation of Shepherd’s lesser-known work. In addition, Nick has directed selections from Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, Shakespeare’s King John, and Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? He treats his directing as a continual exercise in imagination, possesing a deep passion for the ridiculous, the frightening, and the absurd.

  • As a writer, Nick specializes in playwriting and short stories. His play A Barrel of Apples was performed at the 2023 Louisiana State Thespian Festival as well as the 2023 Louisiana Literary Rally Regionals, and his short story Cadaver won the Literary Prose: Personal Narrative Award at the 2023 Artbreak festival. The president of his university’s Alpha Psi Omega chapter, Nick leads the club’s weekly playwrighting workshops as well as their twice-a-year twenty-four-hour playwrighting festivals.
